The Destination Book · Est. by Postcard Press

Editor's Note

A resort is a decision. We write the case for it.

Most resort content is a brochure with better paper. This is the opposite: a destination first, the resort second, and the rest of the week in service of both. If a place doesn't survive being described honestly, it doesn't make the book.

Premier Destination Resorts collects the stays worth crossing time zones for, cliff tops, lagoons, and city lights, and holds every one of them to the same four tests before it earns a page.

The Destinations

Three ways the world does a view

Each destination is a sample feature, the format every entry in the book receives once its story is written.

Clifftop infinity pool above the sea 1

The Mediterranean · The clifftop

The pool that ends at the sea

A stair of stone from the road to the water, a pool that gives up where the coast begins, and dinners that end whenever the light does. The clifftop, done properly.

A tropical resort on a turquoise lagoon 2

The Reef · The lagoon

Where the reef is the front garden

Morning: the water. Midday: the deck. Afternoon: the same water, closer. A resort arranged around what's under the surface, and patient enough to let you find out.

A luxury city resort terrace at dusk with a skyline beyond 3

The City · The rooftop

City lights, resort hours

The best resorts in the book aren't all on beaches. This one lives above the noise: a pool that glows at 9 p.m., a city that does the entertaining, and a door that closes both.

The Standard

Four tests. No exceptions.

1

The view must be the lobby

You should see the reason you flew before you've signed anything. If the vista is a bonus, it isn't a destination.

2

One table that matters

Every resort in the book has a room worth crossing the world for, and a menu written around what the coast, the reef, or the city actually has.

3

Quiet on demand

A place to be still without booking it. The deck corner, the garden end, the hour the pool empties. Luxury is choosing.

4

The last morning test

If breakfast on day seven still feels like the best part, the resort passes. Most fail here. The book only keeps the ones that don't.

The Resort Diary

Seven days, day by day

A sample week at a clifftop in the book, the rhythm every destination in the collection is measured against.

Day One

The long stair

Arrival is an event, not a transfer. Shoes off by the first glass, map of the coast on the table, and the first swim before the light goes.

Day Two

The slow morning

Breakfast with the sea doing nothing, which is the point. Afternoon for the deck, and the first dinner at the table that matters.

Day Three

The excursion

One morning in the world beyond the cliff, the harbor, the vineyard, the one restaurant the staff won't stop talking about.

Day Four

The rest day

No plans, on purpose. The spa's long hour, the cold plunge, and a book you finally read because there's nowhere else to be.

Day Five

The deep water day

The reef, the boat, the long lunch that ends at sea. The day the trip stops feeling like a trip.

Day Six

The farewell table

One last long dinner, the good bottles out, and the conversation that happens when the light does the talking.

Day Seven

The last morning

Breakfast that still feels like the best part. The stair down, the car, and the quiet knowing that this is the one you'll describe badly.

The Table

What a resort dinner should cost, and what it should give back

The anatomy of a long table: the fat, the view, and the course that's really for the cold.
